Security-sensitive information on the local file system may be read by a remote user with Admin privileges.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server. An upgrade is available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Advisory

All sites are susceptible to this vulnerability. The vulnerability is exploited via an HTTP or HTTPS connection to the Administration server by a WebLogic Server system administrator. A remote user granted the Admin security role with HTTP access to the server may be able to access files on the server's file system by accessing an internal servlet. The patch or upgrade resolves the issue by restricting the access of the internal servlet to only the specific set of WebLogic files required for it to function.

The following versions of WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express are affected by this vulnerability

  • WebLogic Server 8.1 released through Service Pack 3, on all platforms.

Oracle strongly recommends the following course of actions.

WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express version 8.1
  1. Upgrade to service pack 4.
