Minor Subject: An application's deployment descriptor source is visible.

A remote user can view the application's deployment descriptor source.

Severity: Medium
An attacker may be able to use deployment descriptor information as a basis for crafting an attack on the application.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Portal. An upgrade is available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers´┐Ż systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Advisory

All WebLogic Portal sites are susceptible to this vulnerability.

The file source for deployment descriptors file is incorrectly served to the browser. This patch resolves the issue by protecting the deployment descriptor source and returning an HTTP error code of 404 if an attempt is made to access the descriptors.

The following versions of WebLogic Portal are affected by this vulnerability:

  • WebLogic Portal 8.1, released through Service Pack 4 on all platforms.

Oracle strongly recommends the following course of actions.

WebLogic Portal version 8.1

  1. Upgrade to service pack 5.
