Security Advisory: (BEA06-122.00)

From: Oracle Corporation

Minor Subject: JSR-168 Portlets may be rendered to an unauthorized user

Product(s) Affected: WebLogic Portal

Threat level: High
A remote user may incorrectly view a JSR-168 Portlet's contents.

Severity: Medium
Information from one user's JSR-168 Portlet may be incorrectly rendered to another user.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Portal. A patch is available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:
I. Read the following advisory.
II. Apply the suggested action.
III. If you know of any additional users interested in future security advisories, please forward them the registration instructions included in this advisory.

I. Advisory

This issue affects WebLogic Portal sites using JSR-168 Portlets; other Portlet types (such as JSP Portlets or pageflow Portlets) are not impacted.

JSR-168 Portlets were occasionally rendered from cache when they should not have been. This might lead to one user seeing another user's JSR-168 Portlet.

This patch resolves the issue by ensuring that JSR-168 Portlets are not rendered from the cache when they should not be.

The following versions of WebLogic Portal are affected by this vulnerability:

  • WebLogic Portal 8.1 released through Service Pack 5, on all platforms

II. SUGGESTED ACTION

Oracle strongly recommends the following course of actions.

WebLogic Portal version 8.1

  1. Upgrade to WebLogic Portal 8.1 Service Pack 5.
