Security Advisories and Notifications

Subject: Security Advisory (BEA07-163.00)
From: Oracle Corporation
Minor Subject: The WLST script generated by configToScript may not encrypt sensitive attributes when creating a new domain.
Product(s) Affected: WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express

Threat level: Low
A user with read access to configuration files may be able to obtain the clear text value of certain sensitive attributes.

Severity: Medium
A user will be able to use the clear text values of sensitive attributes to gain unauthorized access to a WebLogic application.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server. A patch is available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Read the following advisory.
II. Apply the suggested action.
III. If you know of any additional users interested in future security advisories, please forward them the registration instructions included in this advisory.

I. Advisory

The WebLogic configToScript command converts an existing server configuration to an executable WLST script and the resulting script can be used to create a new WebLogic domain. However, the generated script may not encrypt sensitive attributes (in particular, the node manager password) when a new domain is created with the script.

A patch is available to allow proper encryption of these sensitive attributes.
