Security Advisories and Notifications

Subject: Security Advisory (BEA07-168.00)
From: Oracle Corporation
Minor Subject: An SSL port may be susceptible to a Denial of Service attack
Product(s) Affected: WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express

Threat level: Low
In specific configurations, an attacker may prevent access to a WebLogic Server SSL port

Severity: Low
The WebLogic Server continues to be available to process requests received on other ports but, it may have to be re-started to make the affected SSL port available.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server. Patches are available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Read the following advisory.
II. Apply the suggested action.
III. If you know of any additional users interested in future security advisories, please forward them the registration instructions included in this advisory.

I. Advisory

Under special circumstances and configuration, an attacker can deny service on a WebLogic Server SSL port by accessing the socket when it is half-closed. The server remains available to process requests received on other unaffected ports. However, the server may have to be re-started to make the affected port available.

Patches are available to resolve this issue by allowing the port to continue to be available when this condition occurs.
