Security Advisories and Notifications

Subject: Security Advisory (BEA07-175.00)
From: Oracle Corporation
Minor Subject: SSL clients may not find all possible cipher suites resulting in use of the default null cipher (no encryption)
Product(s) Affected: WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express

Threat level: Medium
An attacker could obtain sensitive information transmitted in the clear when client does not find all possible ciphers and the null cipher ends up being used by default.

Severity: Medium
An attacker may be able to perform unauthorized operations with the information obtained.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server. A patch is available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers' systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Read the following advisory.
II. Apply the suggested action.
III. If you know of any additional users interested in future security advisories, please forward them the registration instructions included in this advisory.

I. Advisory

In some circumstances, SSL clients that run outside the server environment may not find all possible ciphers with which to construct the list of potential SSL cipher suites resulting in use of the default null cipher (no encryption).

This advisory corrects this issue by supplying jars and instructions to ensure all cipher suites are found.
