Subject: Security Advisory (BEA08-187.00)
From: Oracle Corporation
Minor Subject: Web Service WSDL and policy is exposed to unauthenticated HTTP clients
Product(s) Affected: WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express

Threat level: Medium
An attacker can retrieve a deployed web service’s WSDL and policy.

Severity: Low
An attacker could learn of vulnerabilities in the web service and exploit that information to access application resources.

A problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server. Patches are available to correct this problem (see Section II). Oracle treats potential security problems with a high degree of urgency and endeavors to take appropriate steps to help ensure the security of our customers’ systems. As a result, Oracle strongly suggests the following actions:

I. Read the following advisory.
II. Apply the suggested action.
III. If you know of any additional users interested in future security advisories, please forward them the registration instructions included in this advisory.

I. Advisory

Any sites that have deployed web services in WebLogic Server are susceptible to this vulnerability. An unauthenticated HTTP client can access the web service’s WSDL and its security policies, potentially revealing vulnerabilities in the web service.

This advisory corrects this issue by allowing administrators to deny remote access to a web service’s WSDL.
