Minor Subject: Remedy available to prevent access to a web application without re-authentication

Recently a problem was identified that could potentially cause a security vulnerability in certain versions of WebLogic Server and Express. A Service Pack is available to correct the problem (see section II below). BEA treats such possibilities with the highest degree of urgency and does everything possible to ensure the security of all customer assets. As a result, we strongly suggest the following action:

I. Advisory

This vulnerability can occur when an application that contains a web application component using "memory" session persistence is redeployed without rebooting the server. When this occurs, users who have logged into the web application prior to its redeployment can sometimes access the web application without needing to authenticate again even if they are accessing the application long after their last access. Only systems that use web applications, "memory" session persistence and dynamic redeployment (ie: redeploy without a reboot) are vulnerable to this problem.

The following versions of WebLogic Server and Express are affected by this vulnerability
  • Version: WebLogic Server 7.0 released or WebLogic Server 7.0.0.1 on all platforms

Oracle strongly recommends the following course of actions:
  • WebLogic Server 7.0 released or WebLogic Server 7.0.0.1
    • Apply WebLogic Server 7.0 Service Pack 2
