A group is a named collection of one or more resources, which fail over as a unit. When an event occurs to initiate a failover (such as a node becoming unavailable), the group and all resources contained within it fail over together.

Resources are all of the hardware and software components that are registered with and monitored by Microsoft Cluster Server.
Before and after failover image of a cluster. Before: One group is on each cluster node. After: One node is unavailable; both groups are on the remaining available node.
