Clusters provide high availability by configuring resources (hardware and software objects managed by Microsoft Cluster Server) to run on a set of two to four systems (called nodes) that operate as a single virtual system. When one node in the cluster becomes unavailable, another node serves the workload from both nodes.

Oracle Fail Safe works on any cluster hardware configuration supported for use with Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS).

The examples in this Quick Tour use two-node clusters.
