Installing and Configuring Oracle Secure Backup 10.2
This tutorial shows you how to install and configure Oracle Secure Backup (OSB) 10.2 for test and training purposes (not for production use). Completing this tutorial is a prerequisite for all other Oracle Secure backup 10.2 tutorials.

This tutorial covers how to install Oracle Secure Backup and how to configure it for seamless integration with RMAN. You will use different interfaces to familiarize yourself with all of them.

Before starting this tutorial, you should:

Have access to or have installed Oracle Database 11g on Linux 32 with Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Console. - From the database installation, you need to know the passwords of the SYS Oracle user (referred to as SYS_password) and the oracle OS user account (referred to as host_password).

Ensure that the database has a static entry in the listener.ora file. (You can use the netmgr utlitiy for this.) |

Have access to or have installed the sample schema.

Have access to the Oracle Secure Backup 10.2 software. You can download the software following the links from http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/secure-backup/index.html.
This tutorial assumes that the downloaded software is accesible in the /stage directory and unzipped in this directory. It also assumes that the root user owns the /u01 directory with sufficient space to contain all backups that you create during these tutorials.
To install the software, you need to know the password of the root user.
This tutorial is tested with Oracle Secure Backup v10.2.0.2 Linux x86 (the 32-bit version).

Download the osb10_2install.zip file into your working directory (\home\oracle) and unzip the file. |

In this topic you install the unzipped, staged Oracle Secure Backup software.
To install the Oracle Secure Backup software, perform
the following steps:

As the root user, create the OSB home directory by executing the following command:
# mkdir -p /usr/local/oracle/backup

Note: It is important for a correct setup that you remain in this directory for the following steps.

In your OSB home directory start the Oracle Secure Backup installation as the root user.

You must now enter a password for the Oracle Secure Backup encryption
key store. Oracle suggests you choose a password of at least 8
characters in length, containing a mixture of alphabetic and numeric
characters.

This topic guides you through performing one-time configuration tasks and confirming that basic elements, such as tape libraries and tape drives are in service.
To configure Oracle Secure Backup and to confirm your configuration, perform the following steps:

As oracle OS user, navigate to your working directory (/home/oracle) by executing the following command:
$ cd /home/oracle |

To confirm that you have the necessary OBE configuration files, enter:
$ ls c*
config1_in.sh config1_out.sh config1.sh config2.txt

To substitute the host name in the config1_out.sh file, enter:
$ ./config1.sh
Your hostname is displayed. This example uses "host01.example.com".

To assign the mediaserver role to your host and to configure devices for the OBE training environment, execute the config1_out.sh file and provide the password for each of the devices:

Note: This tutorial generates virtual test devices which use disk space (under the u01 directory), but emulate tape devices. These OSB test devices are not supported in production, although Oracle Secure Backup supports many non-Oracle virtual tape devices.
Note 2: Should you have any errors during the execution of this file or mistype a password, then it is recommended to log in as the root user, first remove disk directories by entering:
$ su - root

Note: The logout command ends the obtool session and destroys the login token, so that you are prompted for credentials at the start of your next obtool session, which may include the following message "Warning: auto-login failed - login token has expired"
If you end an obtool session with the exit or quit commands, the login token is preserved according to Webtool > Configure > Defaults and Policies > Security> Login token duration: 15 minutes (default).

In this topic you register your Oracle Secure Backup administrative server with Enterprise Manager (EM), which is required for a seamless operation between these two tools.
To register your administrative server, perform the following steps:

In this topic you first view the previously created virtual devices in Enterprise Manger, then you test their connectivity to confirm that they are available and ready to be used.
To view your devices and to test the connectivity of your devices, perform the following steps:

In this topic you define the oracle OS user as a new Oracle Secure Backup administrator and you preauthorize this user to execute RMAN backup and recovery jobs. "Preauthorization" means that this user does not have to provide OSB credentials, after they logged into Enterprise Manger and started, for example, a backup job to tape.
To define and preauthorize a new OSB user, perform the following steps:

In Enterprise Manager on the Availability page, right-click File System Backup and Restore in the Oracle Secure Backup section and select (if available in your browser) Open Link in a New Tab.

In this topic you view the default media families and create new ones with the OSB Web Tool.
To view and create media families, perform the following steps:

To start the OSB Web Tool directly (not from EM), open your web browser and enter your URL in the following format:

The Oracle Secure Backup Web Interface displays the Oracle Secure Backup Login page and changes the URL as follows:

On the Oracle Secure Backup Login page, enter admin as User Name and your admin_password, then click Login.

On the OSB Home page, click Preferences in the top-right corner.

Select the On Setting for Extended command output, then click Apply.

To view and edit existing media families, as well as creating new ones, click the Configure tab.
