Oracle by Example - Oracle Database 10g on a Single Instance

Storage Management

Automatic Storage Management (ASM), a new feature in Oracle Database 10g, provides the database administrator with a simple storage-management interface that is consistent across all server and storage platforms. Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is concerned with everything that happens to data during its lifetime. Oracle Database 10g handles ILM today with its ability to store all of your data so it is much easier to manage, the data in one place, instead of being stored in different formats. This provides an ideal platform for ILM because the unique features provided make it very easy to implement an ILM solution. In addition, Oracle Data Pump is a new feature of Oracle Database 10g that provides high speed, parallel, bulk data, and metadata movement.
