Integration with Oracle Discoverer

Warehouse Builder allows you to import and export metadata. In this module you will review the simple steps to move metadata to Oracle Discoverer. Using the Warehouse Builder metadata exchange mechanism (also referred to as a Bridge) you move your design metadata into the Oracle Discoverer End User Layer (EUL).

Overview

In this topic you will learn the OWB Transfer Wizard lets you select attributes for Discoverer related properties to create a file with the .eex extension. This file can then be imported as a Business Area into Discoverer.

You will use the Metadata Transfer Wizard to export Warehouse Builder metadata to Oracle Discoverer.

1.

Select Project > Metadata Export > Bridge. Starting the OWB Transfer Wizard make take a while.

Click Next on the Warehouse Builder Transfer Wizard's welcome page.

In the Metadata Source and Target Identification page, the From drop-down list box displays Oracle9i Warehouse Builder. Accept the default.

For the To drop-down list box select Oracle9i Discoverer and click Next.

The Transfer Parameter Identification page appears.

Click Finish in the Summary page, to begin the transfer process.

Click OK, if the transfer operation is successfully complete.

View Oracle Warehouse Builder Metadata in Discoverer

Oracle Discoverer can also be used as an analytic tool. With Oracle9i Discoverer Administrator, you can create and maintain a business-oriented view of the data that supports the Discoverer client tools: Discoverer Plus and Discoverer Viewer.

1.

Using Discoverer Administrator, start the Import Wizard and import the sales.eex file you created.

The Import Wizard will help you import an End User Layer.

 

2.

After successfully completing the Import Wizard, the Business Area is created

Import the Business Area and create a report using Discoverer Desktop or Discoverer Plus.

Note that no additional changes are required to query the data once Warehouse Builder
delivers the metadata.
