Using Metadata Import Utility

Back to Topic List

The Metadata Import Utility lets you import objects from an export file into a Warehouse Builder repository. In this topic you will import MDL file OWB10g_DEMO.mdl to partially prepare your design time environment. After you successfully complete the import you will have a partially prepopulated project that you will use in a few lessons in the course.

In Warehouse Builder 10g Release 1 (10.1), you do not have to use the Metadata Loader File Upgrade Utility to upgrade your metadata from a previous version of Warehouse Builder to Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g Release 1 (10.1). When you import an MDL file into 10g Release 1 (10.1), Warehouse Builder automatically detects the version from which the file was exported and upgrades it to the current version. However, you still have the choice to upgrade your metadata separately by manually running the MDL File Upgrade Utility.

1.

In the Oracle Warehouse Builder console, from the menu select Project > Metadata Import > File.

Move your mouse over this icon to see the image

2.

The Metadata Import Utility window appears. You will specify the name and location for the import file.

For the import filename, click Browse. Navigate to the folder C:\OWB-OBE\mdl, or where you have saved the setup files as instructed in Lesson 1. Select the OWB10g_DEMO.mdl file.
