Managing Holidays

Purpose

This lesson demonstrates how to manage holidays in Oracle Calendar by using Calendar Administrator.

Holidays are special events that appear in the calendars of all users, resources, and event calendars. Any user who has holiday administration rights can create, modify, or delete holidays in Oracle Calendar. This user can also assign administration rights to to other regular calendar users. By default, SYSOP has holiday administration rights.

Assigning Holiday Administration Rights

Jennifer White, the manager who is a regular calendar user, wants to be able to add holidays to the calendar node when required. For this, she requests Greg (the administrator) to grant her holiday administration rights.

2. Greg needs to first search for all holidays or for a particular holiday while performing tasks such as modifying or deleting holiday(s) on the calendar node.

Perform the following steps to search for a calendar node(s):

1.

Open a browser and enter the following URL:

http://<hostname>:7778/

Click the Oracle Calendar Administrator link.

2.

Login as calendar_admin/<your password> and click Login.

3.

Fill in the Host Name and Node-ID fields in the Calendar Server section. In the Administrator section, enter your User-ID and Password. Click the Log In button.

4.

Click the Server Administration tab.

5.

In the Nodes subtab, click the Go button.

6.

All the calendar nodes are displayed.

7.

Enter a specific calendar node name in the Search field next to the Node-ID drop-down list and click the Go button.

8.

Details of the specified calendar node are displayed.

Adding a Holiday to the Calendar Node

3. Calendar users with the proper administrative rights can create holidays one-by-one. Jennifer, who has now been assigned holiday administration rights, wants to add Christmas as a holiday.

Perform the following steps to add a holiday to your calendar node:

1.

Open a browser and enter the following URL:

http://<hostname>:7778/

Click the Oracle Calendar Administrator link.

2.

Login as calendar_admin/<your password> and click Login.

3.

Fill in the Host Name and Node-ID fields in the Calendar Server section. In the Administrator section, enter your Password. Click the Log In button.

4.

Click the Server Administration tab.

5.

In the Nodes subtab, click the Manage Holidays icon associated with your calendar node.

6.

Click the Create Holiday icon.

7.

Fill the following information in the specified fields to add Christmas day, Dec 25, as a holiday and click the Apply button.

Title: Christmas
Start Time: 2003 December 24

8.

Click the Apply button.

9.

In the confirmation screen, click the Go button.

10.

Verify that the holiday added is displayed as a part of the month view.

Modifying a Holiday in the Calendar Node

4. While adding Christmas as a holiday to the calendar, Jennifer set a wrong date of Dec 24. She now wants to modify the holiday details to correct this date as Dec 25.

Perform the following steps to modify a holiday in the calendar node:

1.

Open a browser and enter the following URL:

http://<hostname>:7778/

Click the Oracle Calendar Administrator link.

Login as calendar_admin/<your password> and click Login.

3.

Fill in the Host Name and Node-ID fields in the Calendar Server section. In the Administrator section, enter your Password. Click the Log In button.

4.

Click the Server Administration tab.

5.

In the Nodes subtab, click the Manage Holidays icon associated with your calendar node.

6.

Select the link pertaining to the holiday you want to edit. Click the Christmas link.

7.

Edit the information and click the Apply button.

8.

In the confirmation screen, click the Go button.

9.

Verify that the holiday, Christmas, is displayed on Dec 25 as a part of the month view.

Deleting a Holiday in the Calendar Node

5. While viewing the list of holidays, Greg notices a Test Holiday for Jan 5, 2003 that was created by an administrator who conducted training . Greg wants to delete this holiday.

Perform the following steps to delete a holiday from the calendar node:

1.

Open a browser and enter the following URL:

http://<hostname>:7778/

Login as calendar_admin/<your password> and click Login.

3.

Fill in the Host Name and Node-ID fields in the Calendar Server section. In the Administrator section, enter your Password. Click the Log In button.

4.

Click the Server Administration tab.

In the Nodes subtab, click the Manage Holidays icon associated with your calendar node.

6.

Search for the holiday using the Previous and Next links.

7.

Click the Delete icon next to the specified holiday, Test Holiday.

8.

In the confirmation screen, click the Go button.

9.

Verify that the holiday created for Jan 5, 2003 is deleted successfully and does not appear in the month view.
