Using Oracle Connector for Microsoft Outlook

Oracle Connector for Outlook is a calendar and e-mail system combined in one interface: Microsoft Outlook. The purpose of this product is to combine the very familiar and feature-rich Microsoft Outlook interface with the functionality of Oracle Collaboration Suite e-mail and real-time calendaring systems.

In order for this lesson to work successfully, you will need to have performed the following:

To download Oracle Connector for Outlook:

1.

Log in to Oracle Collaboration Suite to access the main Oracle Collaboration Suite page. A unique Web URL is assigned to the login window of the Web client by your administrator. For this example, the URL to access the Web client is http://<hostname>:<port>:

2.

Click the Downloads link in the Downloads region of the page:

Under Oracle Connector for Outlook, click Windows:

Save the executable file to your hard drive:

To use Microsoft Outlook with Oracle Collaboration Suite, some specific parameters must be configured. This example is using Microsoft Outlook 2000.

1.

To configure Microsoft Outlook, double-click the Microsoft Outlook icon on your desktop:

The Outlook 2000 Startup dialog box appears. Click Next:

In the E-mail Service Options dialog box, select the Corporate or Workgroup option. Click Next:

Several installation windows appear:

On the next page, select Internet E-mail for the information services that you want to use with Microsoft Outlook. Click Next.

6.

In the Internet E-mail dialog box, click the Setup Mail Account button to set up your internet email account.

Under the General tab, input the following values:

- Mail Account field: Type the name by which you would like to refer to these servers.

- Input the following information in the User Information fields: Name (the user name), Organization (your organization's name), E-mail Address (username@domain), and your Reply Address (typically the same as the e-mail address):

Click the Servers tab. Input the appropriate server name(s) in the Incoming mail (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) fields. Under Incoming Mail Server, enter your username in the Account name field and the appropriate password in the Password field.

If you want the system to remember your password, select the Remember password checkbox. Click OK:

9.

On the Internet E-mail dialog box, click Next. In the Personal Folders page, retain the default value and click Next:

10.

The final dialog box appears. Click Finish to complete the process:

The Microsoft Outlook client appears. If you want Microsoft Outlook to be your default manager, click Yes. Otherwise, click No.

To register your copy of Microsoft Outlook, click Yes. Otherwise, click No.

13.

Exit and log off from Microsoft Outlook by selecting File > Exit and Log Off:

1.

Double-click the executable file, con_outlook_9041.exe, which you downloaded in section one:

In the first dialog box asking you whether you want to install Oracle Connector for Outlook, click Yes:

A window indicating the status of the installation appears. This window disappears after the installation is complete.

 

3.

The Welcome page for Oracle Connector for Outlook appears. Click Next:

4.

Enter your username (use the same username you used for Microsoft Outlook) in the Name field and your company name in the Company field. Click Next.

5.

In the Choose Destination Location page, retain the default value and click Next.

6.

In the Additional Languages page accept the defaults and click Next.

7.

In the Start Copying Files page, accept the defaults and click Next.

8.

The files will begin to copy. When complete, the Profiles page appears. Select Create a New Profile and click Next.

9.

Retain the default values in the Create New Profile page. Click Next.

10.

Retain the default value for the Oracle Calendar Server Configuration page. Click Next.

11.

The Calendar Account opens next. Enter the server name (the full hostname of the Mid-Tier server), account name (use the same username you used for Microsoft Outlook), and the password. Click Next.

12.

In the IMAP4 Configuration page, enter the server name in the Incoming mail server field and select Use same settings as my Oracle Calendar server. Click Next.

13.

The SMTP Configuration window allows you to set the configuration for your outgoing mail server. Keep the default values for the SMTP Configuration. Click Next.

14.

In the E-mail Sender Information page, enter the display name and your e-mail address. Click Next.

15.

Retain the default values in the Off-line Folders page. Click Next.

16.

Review your information and click Next.

17.

You can either keep the value in the Yes, I want to view the ReadMe file check box selected, or deselect it and then click Finish to complete the configuration.
