Searching for Files

This lesson demonstrates how to search for files and folders in Oracle Files.

This lesson will discuss the following:

Place the cursor on this icon to display all screenshots. You can also place the cursor on each icon to see only the screenshot associated with it.

In Oracle Files, you can conduct simple or advanced searches for files and folders. You can also refine the search by defining additional criteria such as:

Item Name
A specified folder
User ID
Last modified or deleted date
Document content
Document size

 

For this lesson to work successfully, you will need your Oracle Collaboration Suite administrator to supply you with an Oracle Collaboration Suite user account.

To login to your Oracle Collaboration Suite Portal Page, perform the following:

1.

Open your browser and enter the following URL:

http://<hostname>:7778/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwsec_app_priv.login

2.

Type susie.parker in the User Name field and welcome1 in the Password field. Click Login.

3.

The Oracle Collaboration Suite Portal is displayed. Click Files.

4.

You can now view the files in your Private folder. Click My Workspaces.

You want to search for documents that you have uploaded to CustomerABC workspace. To conduct a simple search, perform the following:

1.

Type *.doc in the text-field next to the Search drop-down list on the Browse Files window. This searches through the current folder for the files and folders. Click Go.

2.

You can view the results that appear on the Search Results window.

You want to use the advanced search feature of Oracle Files to refine your search criteria. To locate a file based on the contents, perform the following:

1.

In the Search Results window, click Advanced Search.

2.

In the Advanced Search page, type: presentation in the Document Contains field. Verify that the language is English. Click Search.

View the search results.

To conduct a search for files, based on their associated categories, and the attribute values of those categories, perform the following:

1.

From the Category Search Criteria section, select Presentation from the Select Category drop-down list. Click Add to Search.

2.

View the results of the search. Click Cancel.

You realize that a number of files in your workspace are redundant and can be deleted. Files deleted in workspaces are moved to a corresponding trash folder. However, after removing the file from trash, you realize that one file is required. To request the Subscriber Administrator to restore files that have been emptied from the trash, perform the following:

1.

From the Browse Files page, click CustomerABC.

2.

Select MeetingMinutes.doc. Click Delete.

3.

Click OK to confirm the deletion.

4.

Click Trash.

5.

Click Workspace Trash.

6.

Click CustomerABC Trash.

7.

Click Empty Trash.

8.

Click OK to confirm the deletion.

9.

Click Recover File to initiate a recovery request.

10.

Type the following in the Recovery Request page:

Item Name: MeetingMinutes.doc
Approximate Date of Deletion: Click to select today's date
Original Location: Click the search icon. Select MyWorkspaces folder link. Select the option button next to CustomerABC folder. Click Select.
Restore Location: Click the search icon . Select MyWorkspaces folder. Select the option button next to CustomerABC folder. Click Select.

Click OK.

11.

Your request is sent to the Subscriber Administrator.
