The Sharing Imperative

From the Editor
Nearly 1.5 million people have opted into the OTN TechBlast newsletter, making it one of the most popular ways to stay in touch with Oracle technology news. In September, we debuted a new look and feel that makes it even easier to specify what type of informationsuch as updates on new downloads, tech documents, or eventsyou want to receive. (For a sample newsletter, go to oracle.com/technology/techblast.)
Haven't signed up yet? Go to your OTN Profile (oracle.com/technology/membership) and select the OTN Monthly Newsletter and Send Me Customized Communication checkboxes. You'll receive TechBlast at the beginning of each month.

OTN is all about sharingwhether it's information, experience, or increasingly, software extensions. The newest place to share the last is at the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Extensions Exchange (oracle.com/technology/products/oem/emx/extensions_exchange).
Here, you can download source code developed by product managers and customers to extend Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor custom targets. (Oracle Enterprise Manager lets you specify custom target types and associated instrumentation via XML files.) For example, the Graphics Device Extension includes all the tools you needdocumentation, source code, and a sample code tutorialto define an oracle_graphicsdevice target type that lets you monitor all graphics devices connected to a host.
The exchange also offers an Extensibility Kitcomplete with samples and documentationfor building your own extensions, and discussion forums for sharing tips and recommendations with other members.
The Oracle Enterprise Manager
10g Grid Control Extensions Exchange
joins established programs on OTN such as the Oracle JDeveloper Extensions Exchange, Oracle Reports PlugIn Exchange, HTML DB Studio, and Oracle Warehouse Builder Utilities Exchange. Find out more at oracle.com/technology/products/exchanges.html.
Applications: Welcome to the Neighborhood
If you've recently implemented Oracle
E-Business Suite or developed customized E-Business Suite extensions, you may have noticed something missing at OTNspecifically, technical information on Oracle applications technology.
All that's changing with the debut of the AppsNet Community (oracle.com/technology/community/apps), where you can get quick access to documentation, technical case studies and demos, presentations, and upgrade tips and tools. Be sure to check out the discussion forums, too, where you can benefit from the experiences of the world's largest community of Oracle applications users.
We'll continually update the AppsNet Community with new technical information that applies to areas such
as administration, security, sizing, performance/availability, and business process management. If you're an Oracle applications user, check back often at oracle.com/technology/community/apps.
Celebrating All That Is PL/SQL
Steven Feuerstein, author of several PL/SQL books from O'Reilly & Associates and one of the most popular regular contributors to Oracle Magazine, brings his unique expertise to OTN via the new, interactive Best Practice PL/SQL project (oracle.com/technology/pub/columns/plsql). Each month, Feuerstein answers selected technical questions submitted by the PL/SQL community. Readers can also test their wits against other PL/SQL enthusiasts by solving the popular PL/SQL Puzzlers online. Both features are open to visitors. (Utilities and code samples are available for download as well.)
So if you're stuck in a loop with
a PL/SQL coding problem, or you're simply curious about the inner workings of that language, make Best Practice PL/SQL one of your first stops.
