Dell Offers Oracle Configuration with Windows
Dell has begun offering Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One prepackaged with Microsoft Windows on Dell's new PowerEdge 2850, Oracle and Dell recently announced. With the new offering, the companies say, even the smallest business can easily and cost-effectively build and deploy business-critical applications on the Oracle/Windows platform in record time.
In addition to ease of deployment, this offering, part of Dell and Oracle's exclusive go-to-market agreement, provides several key benefits for organizations using Windows, such as simplified administration that leverages Oracle
10g's advanced management features, streamlined storage management based on a preconfigured version of Oracle Automatic Storage Management and
Dell RAID technology, and one-stop
purchasing and licensing.

The Dell/Oracle configuration consists of CDs containing Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One preinstalled on Dell's recently released PowerEdge 2850, a high-speed server geared toward the needs of small businesses. Dell's experience in the server market enables the company to deliver a complete platform that is affordable as well as easy to deploy and manage. Dell will provide tested configurations of the Dell Power-Edge 2850 with Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One, with Dell serving as a single point of contact for support.
Oracle Improves Partnering Opportunities for ISVs
Oracle has introduced a range of technical, marketing, and sales resources designed to help independent software vendors (ISVs) successfully employ Oracle technology and applications.
The Oracle PartnerNetwork ISV Forum, held earlier this year in San Francisco and London, is part of this effort. Oracle executives, including Larry Ellison, Charles Phillips, Chuck Rozwat, and Bronwyn Hastings, launched this series of global events that focuses on business opportunities with ISVs. The daylong events combined speeches, question-and-answer sessions, in-depth presentations, and networking opportunities. Oracle will also expand its network of Migration Centers of Excellence and make them available to ISVs for testing and certifying applications in a variety of configurations, including Linux and grid environments. In these centers, Oracle confirms that partners are prepared and qualified to deliver tested, proven applications to the market. Oracle is also expanding and improving its online Partner Solutions Catalog and encouraging ISVs to share information on their offerings there.
Oracle Certified Professional Upgrade Program Available to Partners
Oracle certification is a key differentiator for partners competing for the most interesting, cutting-edge, and lucrative customers and assignments. Oracle Database Administrator certification is now available for the Oracle 10g database, and Oracle University and Oracle PartnerNetwork have created an Oracle DBA 9i to 10g Oracle Certified Professional upgrade program specifically for partners. Oracle partners
who are already Oracle9i Certified Professionals can learn new Oracle 10g features and take the Oracle 10g OCP certification exam, all in one week.
The partner program consists of 4 1/2 days of instruction and hands-on training, Monday through Friday, followed immediately by the certification exam, on Friday afternoon. The package, which includes the OCP exam fee, is offered to Oracle PartnerNetwork members at 35 percent off the usual price of US$2,625.
NEOS Rolls Out Database
Migration Package
NEOS is partnering with Oracle to support Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One. NEOS Vgo4Oracle, an application-migration tool, is now available bundled with NEOS services to help companies migrate existing applications to Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Application Server.
Vgo4Oracle takes Access, MySQL,
or SQL Server data; generates Oracle 10g DDL; extracts data files; and generates Oracle SQL Loader control files. Vgo4Oracle also helps with migration from Oracle Forms or client/server applications to Oracle 10g, generating JSP pages reflecting the Forms design.
