New Release Gives ISVs an Edge

Oracle Database Standard Edition One helps vendors and small businesses raise overall ROI.

Independent software vendors (ISVs) worldwide are building products on a platform of Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One, for a variety of reasons, including price, compatibility, and simplicity. It's affordable for many small and midsize businesses (SMBs), because of its pricing: US$149 per named user or US$4,995 per central processing unit (maximum of two CPUs) with unlimited use. Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One is available on Windows, Linux, and UNIX, and, because it supports a variety of standard data interfaces (such as SQL, JDBC, and WebDAV), it's an ideal platform for developing applications.
The Benefits of Partnering with Oracle

If you build your business around Oracle's products and technologies, you should consider joining Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), a community that provides your business with the chance to closely align with Oracle. OPN consolidates offerings from multiple Oracle product groups into an easy-to-use online portal. Using this portal, your company can learn more about Oracle's offerings for partners, access tools and resources just for partners, and develop a closer relationship with Oracle.

In addition, OPN offers a solutions catalog that lets you locate Oracle partners you might be interested in forming a relationship with. To learn more about partnering with Oracle, go to oraclepartnernetwork.com. To search Oracle's partner solutions catalog, go to oracle.com/webapps/opus.

The competitive pricing of Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One is attractive to Oracle partner Boon Software Consulting, of Singapore, a leading developer of logistics solutions in Asia, specializing in warehouse management. "We know that the logistics industry is suffering from depressed margins," says Mike Boon, the company's business-development manager. "That makes return on investment (ROI) especially important. Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One helps us keep ROI as high as possible.

"The lower price point allows us to penetrate into developing countries," Boon continues. "Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One gives SMBs a chance to adopt enterprise-software capabilities and upgrade their business offerings to their customers. This increases their revenue."

Q-Soft Systems and Solutions, of Bangalore, India, also enables SMBs to adopt enterprise-class software, with its Q-Flow Enterprise Resource Planning product. An Oracle Certified Partner, Q-Soft is one of India's leading companies in Oracle development, support, and services. "For SMBs, cost is one of the main criteria in deciding on an enterprise resource planning system," says Girish Chaitanya, Q-Soft's director of business development. "With the introduction of Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One, we can cater to this market in an efficient way."

In the United States, Certified Oracle Partner Khameleon Software, of Tampa, Florida, has developed a suite of business solutions, from sales-force automation to orders and distribution applications, for product and services companies in the SMB market. "Our offering has been designed to provide the benefits of Oracle as well as enterprise solutions in an offering that is easy to implement and expand—ideal for the limited IT staffs often found in the SMB market," says Douglas Angelone, executive vice president of Khameleon Software. The Khameleon Suite of solutions can be purchased separately or as an integrated offering.

Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One

For small and midsize businesses that are not ISVs and want to develop their own applications on Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One, Oracle has partnered with Dell to streamline the Standard Edition One purchase process: SMBs can purchase a server-and-software bundle directly from Dell. Dell offers the PowerEdge 1850 Rack Server bundled with an Oracle installation CD and a 5-user license, and the PowerEdge 2850 Rack Server with the database factory-installed, capable of handling as many as 400 concurrent users.

Dell's extensive experience in the server market enables the company to deliver a complete platform that is affordable as well as easy to deploy and manage. Dell is providing tested configurations of the Dell PowerEdge 2850 with Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition One, giving customers the comfort of knowing that their purchase has been tested and validated by Oracle as well as Dell engineers and that Dell serves as a single point of contact for support.
