Corrected Corrections

I am disappointed that in publishing my letter ("From Our Readers" in the March/April 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine) regarding "The Luxury of Architecture" (in the January/February 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine), you edited it to omit the last line, which read, "This usage is quite unusual and a reversal of the modern, incorrect way, of referring to England and the English, when it should be Britain & the British." In doing this, you have obviated the point of my letter and made me look like a "little Englander," which is an insult to our Scottish, Welsh, and Irish compatriots.

We edit reader letters for length, as stated at the bottom of this page. No insult was intended.

Small-to-Medium Suggestion

I have been a regular reader of Oracle Magazine since last year. It is informative, up-to-date, and filled with technical articles and great enterprise news.

I believe that much enterprise news is not suitable for small- to medium-size application developers, like me, who develop mostly standalone or small client/server applications. At times, while providing solutions to my clients, I'm puzzled about how to integrate various technologies to provide a robust and cost-effective solution. To date, I mostly use Microsoft Visual Basic (VB) as a front end. I want to know more about Oracle so that I can easily use it with VB or, alternatively, use Oracle Developer Suite. I would then be able to decide on the advantages of new technologies.

So I request that you include content on how to choose the right database solution and how to better integrate Oracle with other front ends. Please explain how small application developers can select the right Oracle product.

More Corrections

In the article "More Space and More Time," in the January/February 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine, the syntax example presented to create a temporary tablespace group is incorrect. Specifically, the line

size 16M group temp_group01;

should be

size 16M tablespace group
temp_group01;

The keyword tablespace before the keyword group was missing.

While reading my recent OCP column "Flashback for OCPs," in the March/April 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine, I noticed that a change is necessary in the column. In the "Flashback Drop" section's third sample question, change

Oracle Files 10g Is Coming Soon

"Manage Your Content," in the March/April 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine, incorrectly states that Oracle Files 10g was recently released. The article should have stated that Oracle Files 10g was recently announced. Information about release dates will be posted when available at oracle.com/technology/products/ofiles, where you can also find an Oracle Files 10g statement of direction. The online version of this article has been corrected.Editor
