Mining for Online Content

The "Mining for Clues" article in the July/August 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine is an excellent introduction to LogMiner for newbies—and even for those know-it-all-but-are-embarrassed-to-ask-for-more people (for example, myself) as well! I hope to see more of such articles in the future that I can use immediately in my present job.

One more thing—the section on supplemental logging is very important, but it was placed only in the online version of the article.

Mining for Errors

The article "Mining for Clues" in the July/August 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine was excellent, and I feel these are the sort of articles that we should see more of in the magazine. I had never used Oracle LogMiner before, and since reading the article, I have had to use this feature to extract the details on a mistake that was made.

One mistake I did notice is that the queries referred to the TABLE_NAME column (in V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS); I had to change this to the SEG_NAME column to get the queries to run.

Thanks for your e-mail and very kind compliments. Much appreciated. I'm pretty sure Oracle Magazine will feature more of such articles in the future.

About your question—TABLE_NAME is a column in V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS in Oracle Database 10g, but not in Oracle9i. The article covered Oracle Database 10g LogMiner features, so the use of the TABLE_NAME column was correct.

Several readers wrote us about the apparent mistake that the TABLE_NAME column did not exist in the V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS view. Thanks to everyone who wrote in to offer this solution for Oracle LogMiner usage in Oracle9i. -Editor

Developer to Developer

To Rohit Prakash:
I read your letter in the May/June 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine requesting more information on Oracle Developer Suite. A great resource is ODTUG (Oracle Developer Tools Users Group). Their conferences, Web site, and list servers are acknowledged by many to be the best source for learning about Oracle Tools.

ODTUG, in collaboration with Oracle, will be hosting a virtual conference in early 2006 that would be a good opportunity to gain additional knowledge. ODTUG recently expanded its mission to include all development tools that work with Oracle databases.

I am always very eager to read Oracle Magazine, and my friends who have started to learn Oracle products now are very eager to know about all Oracle products, their structure, and their use.

It will be great if you can give some details of all Oracle products and their usage step-by-step for newbies.

I've been a subscriber to Oracle Magazine for six months now. I have learned a lot, and I know the articles you publish are helping me both at work and at my studies. However, if you could include a section for beginners or those not so thoroughly versed in Oracle products, it would certainly help some of us a lot.
