MORE APPLICATION SERVER

I suggest putting more articles about Oracle Application Server in Oracle Magazine. I'm a DBA who is carrying out Web administrator duties, and your magazine often features articles about developing software or DBA responsibilities.

ACRONYM SOUP

Oracle Magazine is an excellent vehicle by which to distribute information, and I assume that other than its advertiser revenue generation, information dissemination is the primary reason it exists.

The articles in the magazine are rife with acronyms, however. Have you considered that your readers, though familiar with acronyms used in their area of Oracle expertise, have relatively little point of reference for the acronyms used elsewhere in the Oracle world?

It would be immeasurably helpful if you could include an article insert (as you do with "webLOCATOR," "nextSTEPS," "partnerLOCATOR," and so on) containing each acronym used in the article and its definition.

Just a thought from a reader who frequently wonders, "What the &^$#% does that stand for?"

You've done great work in Oracle Magazine highlighting the essentials of modern technology and the amazing methods used in making computing systems fast and easy. But you must also help the readers of this magazine so they can gain maximally from this amazing publication.

The continual use of acronyms is not advisable. One solution would be to give the full meaning and to spell out each acronym at every instance. Before you know it, the meaning of each acronym will be easily understood.

CORRECT NEWS

In the Partner News section of Oracle Magazine, November/December 2005, we stated that Oracle partner Laser-Scan is working with Oracle to help the Ordnance Survey manage the data for OS MasterMap. A more accurate description of Lasers-Scan's activity is that they are working with Oracle to help the Ordnance Survey by managing a campaign for customer migration and adoption to OS MasterMap.

In every new issue of Oracle Magazine, I hope to find articles about the features of Oracle9i Database. There is always special attention paid to Oracle Database 10g, and while I like to read about the new features that I'll use when I migrate to it, at the moment I would like some help with the Oracle database release that I am using (Oracle9i). I believe that Oracle9i Database is still the database version used by most companies.

SOME NEWBIE HELP

I started receiving your magazine this year with the hope of growing from a newbie to a guru. I ask that you spare even just a page to teach newbies like me—and others who have written with this same request—all about Oracle.

THAT'S BROWSER-BASED

I received the November/December 2005 issue of Oracle Magazine and was excited to see that this issue covered Oracle HTML DB. I have been a certified Oracle Academy Instructor for the past six years, and I shared this issue with my students.

When I attempted to locate the article on Oracle HTML DB in the Table of Contents, on page 4, I noticed an error in the heading BROSWER-BASED—the correct spelling is BROWSER. I immediately turned this into a "learning lesson" for my students on proofreading and technical writing.
