New Product News?

I'm a regular reader of Oracle Magazine, and I'd like to recommend that you include a section that provides information on new Oracle products like Oracle TimesTen.

The download file has been updated to include all of the GRANTs needed for the user, as well as a README file with additional information.

Begin at the Beginning

As a regular reader of Oracle Magazine, I request that you include introductory articles for Oracle beginners on topics such as installation, programming, and creating a database.

Up the Frequency

I read Oracle Magazine regularly and enjoy it very much. In fact, I would prefer if it were published monthly. Two months seems too long to wait for the next issue.

About Advertising

It was a pleasant experience for me to read a recent issue of Oracle Magazine. However, you published too many advertisements. In the future, please keep the ads to a minimum and emphasize more good articles and newbie information.

UTL-RECOMP in Oracle9i

Steven Feuerstein says in his "On Confusion and Recompilation" column that the UTL_RECOMP package does not exist in Oracle9i Database. Maybe it is not documented, but it exists. It has saved me a lot of time recompiling objects without worrying about dependencies.

Interviews, Please

I'm currently working as an Oracle application software engineer and am a regular reader of Oracle Magazine. I would like to see an interview section where readers can get to know more about senior Oracle developers, including how they got started working on Oracle, their biggest hassles while working on different projects, how they overcame those problems, their suggestions for best practices, and tips for junior developers to move up.

Asking About Ask Tom

"On Transaction Isolation Levels" by Tom Kyte was a really good column (Oracle Magazine, November/December 2005). Is an index of Oracle Magazine "Ask Tom" columns available?
Mette Stephansen
mst@pfa.dk

Visit oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/asktom for a list of Tom's Oracle Magazine columns dating back to January/February 2001. For even more Tom, visit asktom.oracle.com to view his question-and-answer archive and to learn more about the books he has written.

Getting Older

Is there a way to peruse older issues of Oracle Magazine online?
Hamid Sunny
hamid_l_k@hotmail.com

Issues of Oracle Magazine dating back to July/August 2003 are available online. Please visit oracle.com/oramag and click the "Read past issues" link.

Correction

Raj Mattamal's "Browser-Based" column, "Single-Step Deployment," in the July/August 2006 issue of Oracle Magazine contains steps that are not applicable in the production release of Oracle Application Express 2.2. Please see the online version of the column at oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/06-jul/o46browser.html for the current steps.
