Oracle is committed to providing
its Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer (Discoverer) customers with a clear roadmap for current and
future BI
deployments. By embracing strategic, new technologies such as
Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus (BI EE Plus) you can not only reduce the total
cost of ownership of your BI implementation, but also take advantage of
greater breadth and depth of BI capabilities.
To assist you with converting your
Discoverer environments, Oracle provides the Oracle Discoverer
Metadata Conversion Assistant (Assistant). It is a command
line utility that greatly accelerates the migration of Discoverer
metadata from an End User Layer (EUL) to an Oracle BI EE Plus semantic layer.
The Assistant can be used with several types of Discoverer metadata environments:
-
Data warehouse, such as a star schema. This is the optimum type of metadata to use with the
Assistant. Due to the nature of the BI EE Plus Business Model
Layer metadata, in the majority of cases the converted metadata needs few
manual changes before being able to create queries and generate reports in BI EE Plus.
-
Custom built OLTP schema. This type of metadata may require multiple join paths between folders and circular joins. The
Assistant provides the option for creating additional objects in the BI
EE Plus metadata logical layer, such as alias dimension or fact tables, in
order to convert metadata from these environments.
- Discoverer reporting on Oracle Applications,
such as Oracle BIS against applications like Oracle E-Business Suite or custom built systems. Oracle recommends
that customers evaluate the Oracle Business Intelligence
Applications since they offer the fastest time to value using prebuilt
data warehouse star schemas, ETL routines and Oracle BI EE Plus metadata,
and packaged dashboards and KPIs all based on best practices.
