datasheet Oracle Database Gateway for DB2

The Oracle Database Gateway for DB2 enables you to integrate a DB2 database running on z/OS into your Oracle distributed environment. This gateway is part of a comprehensive suite of solutions designed to integrate heterogeneous applications and data stores.

Transparent Access to Data

Oracle's Database Gateways create the appearance that all data resides in one local Oracle database, even though data actually may be widely distributed. This eliminates the need to duplicate the data on different platforms, minimizing redundant and inconsistent data.

With the Oracle Database Gateway for DB2, Oracle users on any platform can access mainframe DB2 data without knowing its physical location, the network protocol, or the operating system. In fact, users may actually be unaware that the data resides on DB2. This transparent access to data protects your company's investment in data and applications by allowing the use of familiar Oracle tools to access legacy data.

True Client/Server Architecture

The Oracle Database Gateway for DB2 allows you to realize the benefits of client/server architecture. You can select the most suitable client platform, and use tools and applications from Oracle corporation and other vendors to access DB2 and Oracle databases as servers. Applications can be executed wherever they are most cost-effective, and users can access DB2 from PCs or workstations running UNIX, Linux, or Microsoft Windows.

A Cooperative Server Solution

Like all Database Gateways, the Database Gateway for DB2, combined with the Oracle Database, gives you a sophisticated set of services which provide transparent access to data --- no matter where it resides. These services include SQL statement parsing for distribution, database link processing, PL/SQL support, two-phase commit processing, and datatype conversion. The combination provides distributed capabilities such as multisite queries, updates, subqueries, joins, and views --- all with a single SQL command.

Ready-to-Use Solution

The Database Gateway for DB2 is a complete, ready-to-use solution --- with no programming required. From the first day you can use Oracle tools, and many of the the third-party products available for the Oracle database, to access information in DB2 as though it were an Oracle database. If your requirements change, Oracle technology also makes it easy to relocate your data without changing your application programs.
