Hands-On Exercises

The exercises in this section are organized by user roles. For example, if you will use Portal tools to access company information and to personalize your own view of your company's portal, you will find the first group of exercises useful. If you will add content, you'll want to look at the second group of exercises.

These exercises do not require the installation of any special files, though they do require that certain page groups and privileges are in place and, in some cases, that some example files of your own are on hand. Requirements are summarized in the "Before You Begin" sections near the beginning of each group of exercises.

Finding Content and Customizing Your View
These exercises guide you through personalizing your own view of your company's portal and performing various types of searches to find information.

Adding Content
These exercises guide you through placing different types of content where you want it within your company’s portal. They include a section on uploading multiple files simultaneously.

Creating and Managing Pages
These exercises guide you through creating pages and preparing those pages to be used by content contributors and page viewers. They include a section on granting access to the pages you create.

Building Portlets
These exercises guide you through the creation of three simple application components using Portal’s wizards.

Administering Page Groups
These exercises guide you through the creation of page groups and the revision of page group properties. They include information on setting up a classification model for the content within a page group (categories and perspectives).
