Questions and Answers
1. I can see the shortcuts on my desktop, but I do
not see them inside
my portlet
Answer:
On Windows, there is a provision for making shortcuts available
globally to all users logging into that machine. These files are
located in the directory "C:\Documents
and Settings\All Users\Desktop". These
files do not belong to your user desktop which is located at
"C:\Documents
and Settings\<username>\Desktop". The OracleAS
Desktop Integration Portlet scans the user's desktop for matching
shortcuts. Hence you do not see the globally available shortcuts. If
Global shortcuts are to be shown then specify the directory 'C:\Documents
and Settings\All Users\Desktop' in the portlet either via the
Edit Defaults or Customize.
2. I have personalized the portlet setting and
specified the directory
for scanning. Yet the portlet shows me shortcuts from the Desktop.
Answer:
This is the default behavior. This occurs if the specified
directory does not exist. Please check the
location of the directory and specify the correct location in the
portlet settings.
3. The portlet displays "Loading up your desktop
access shortcuts." and
does
not display my shortcuts even after having personalized the portlet.
Answer:
This occurs if the portlet is unable to complete successfully due to an
internal error. The internal error could be
due to a javascript error. For further details you
could check for exceptions reported in the browser's Java Console. The
Java Console can be
reached as follows:
| on IE: |
Tools
-> Sun Java Console |
| on
Mozilla: |
Tools
-> Web Development -> Java Console
|
Check if you are using one of the recommended browsers. Next check that
you have the recommended Java Runtime Environment. If both these are
correct, then ask your
portal administrator to look into this issue. If you are the
administrator, then go to the portlet's edit defaults mode, and enable
the debug switch to on. Once it is on, you will be able to see debug
messages in the Java Console
which will help you resolve the issue. Also check the provider's application.log file in the
OC4J container for any issues. If you are still unable
to resolve the issue please post your problem on the 'Portal - Portal
Development Kit' Discussion
Forum on OTN. We will respond as quickly as possible.
4. What happens if I dont have a Desktop directory
or if my desktop directory is renamed to something else?
Answer:
The portlet will default the scan directory to the environment variable
"user.home"
which is typically "C:\Documents
and Settings\<user>". If your desktop directory is renamed
to something else, then you will have to manually specify the directory
location by personalizing your portlet.
5. My Application Server is deployed on Unix or
Linux box.
Can I still deploy the OracleAS Desktop Integration Portlet?
Answer:
Yes. You can deploy the provider on any operating system. But the
portlet will only work on Microsoft Windows machines, i.e., the client
accessing the portlet needs to be running on a
Microsoft Windows operating system.
6. What do I do if I have an issue that has not
been addressed by this document?
Answer:
If are still unable to resolve your issue, then please post your
problem on the 'Portal - Portal
Development Kit' Discussion
Forum on OTN. We will respond as quickly as possible.
