Oracle JDeveloper 10g Developer Preview is a beta software release. Oracle does
not support or recommend creating new projects intended for production environments
or migrating existing projects created on an earlier production release of JDeveloper.
Migrating Workspace and Project Files from Previous Releases
Opening workspace or project files from previous production releases in JDeveloper
10.1.3 Developer Preview initiates the migration wizard. The migration
wizard will warn that you are about to migrate the workspace or project that
you attempted to open. Clicking "No" cancels the migration process without taking
any action; clicking "Yes" migrates the file(s) you attempted to
open. Migrating workspace files automatically migrates all project files
contained by the workspace. Oracle does not support direct migration from
3.2.3 to 10.1.3, you must first migrate to 9.0.2. Oracle does not support direct
migration from 9.0.2 to 10.1.3 Developer Preview, you must first migrate to
9.0.4.
JDeveloper 10.1.3 Developer Preview provides support for Java, XML and JavaBeans
technologies. Workspaces and projects containing technologies not supported
by the Developer Preview release will be migrated, but design and runtime features
will not be available for the unsupported technologies. The migration process backs up the original workspace and project files
to ".bak" files. Important:
back up your work completely before migrating. Once workspace or project files
have been migrated they cannot be opened using previous versions of JDeveloper.
To recover the original files, copy the backed up files to their original file
names.
For more information about migration issues, see the topic Migrating to JDeveloper 10g , which you can access
by selecting Help | Help Topics | Getting Started with
JDeveloper from the JDeveloper main menu.
Icon Artwork Redesign
This version introduces a brand-new look and feel for JDeveloper. Part of
the new look and feel involves a major reworking of all the icons in the product.
This developer preview release contains a portion of the new icons. Since the
artwork was swapped just prior to the release, there may be some references
in the documentation and other collateral to icons that are out of date.
Miscellaneous Issues
Multibyte Character Set Support
On Windows, the default Plastic XP and Plastic 3D look-and-feels do not support
multibyte characters. The workaround is to change the Look and Feel setting
on the Environment page of the Preferences dialog to "Windows".
3rd Party Integration Limitations
Integration of 3rd party LayoutManager classes for use by the UI Designer
is not available for the preview release. LayoutManager integration will continue
to be supported as part of the final release.
Integration of 3rd party proxy classes for uninstantiable base classes used
by the UI Designer is not supported in the preview release. Integration of
3rd party proxies will continue to be supported in the final release.
Integration of 3rd party PropertyEditor classes for use by the Property
Inspector is not available for the preview release. PropertyEditor integration
will continue to be supported as part of the final release.
JDeveloper Extension Manifest Support Not Complete
JDeveloper 10.1.3 extensions use a new standard manifest format defined in
JSR-198. In this preview release, full support for all JSR-198 functionality
is not yet available. Extension manifests using new JSR-198 features may not
work in the preview release, even if they validate successfully against the
extension manifest schema in jdev/doc/extensions/extension.xsd. Extensions developed
for the preview release may also require significant modifications to work in
the production release.
Comparing Arbitrary File Versions (3965012)
For files that are under version control ( eg CVS ), it will not be possible
to compare arbitrary versions. It is possible to compare the current file version
against previous versions or against local history versions.
First Time Opening a File After Importing a Project into
CVS (4019202)
After performing Versioning | Import Module on a selection which includes a
project (not an application), JDeveloper will automatically check back out the
module and create a new Application for the project. The first time you open
a file, it will appear empty. The workaround for this is to either restart JDeveloper
or close and reopen the file. It is recommended that you restart JDeveloper.
After this initial glitch, there should not be any more issues.
