Protect Your Data with Data Guard Manager

Oracle9i Data Guard protects your data against errors, failures, and corruption that could affect your business.   It protects critical data by automating the creation, management, and monitoring aspects of a standby database environment. It automates the otherwise manual process of maintaining a transactionally consistent copy of an Oracle production database.  Database administrators no longer need to copy archived redo logs to the remote host and apply them in order for the primary database and standby database to  remain synchronized.

Oracle Data Guard Manager, part of  Oracle Enterprise Manager, provides the monitoring, control, and automation necessary to manage a Data Guard configuration, including the primary and standby databases, and the log transport and log apply services. Data Guard Manager controls and monitors configurations to dramatically reduce the time required to implement standby database solutions.

A Create Configuration Wizard steps you through the creation of a Data Guard configuration and allows you to select the primary database, create a new standby database or add an existing standby database.  Data Guard Manager also continuously  monitors the health, status, operations,  and properties of the configuration.  If an error occurs, the Data Guard Manager alerts you and allows you to pause standby operations.   It also monitors the progress of log archival and application, depicted below:

A sophisticated error detection mechanism can trigger event notifications.  A sample of available events is shown below:
