CHARON-VAX

The CHARON-VAX emulators are software packages that accurately simulate VAX system hardware on a modern industry standard host platform. They install any standard VAX operating system—such as OpenVMS or VAXEln—from its original distribution kit, and run VAX application software in unmodified binary form on that new platform. They are developed and tested using the AXE test suit, the VAX architecture compatibility verification tool used by DEC in the design of VAX hardware. Given adequate host hardware, the CHARON-VAX emulators far outperform the original VAXes they emulate.

This presentation will give an overview of the CHARON-VAX products family, their positioning, functionality, clustering, ACE, SMP implementation, Qbus devices connectivity, performance, support and pricing. Some case studies will also be presented to demonstrate the typical usage of the products.
