What
is Forms and Reports Services Installation?
Oracle Application Server Forms and Reports Services installation allows
you to install and configure Forms and Reports Services without the
need to install and configure all components of Oracle Application Server
10g. This was a new installation type introduced in Oracle
Application Server 10g (9.0.4), and is also available in Oracle
Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2). In previous versions
of Oracle Application Server, such as Oracle9iAS Release 2,
installation of Forms and Reports Services (BI and Forms installation
type) required the installation of OracleAS Infrastructure, which is
no longer required in Forms and Reports Services installation type.
As a result, the
advantage of the Forms and Reports Services installation is that it
is relatively lightweight, simpler, and easier to configure and manage.
However, this install type cannot deliver all of the features and functionality
of the Oracle Application Server Enterprise Edition.

Is
this install type available on the same CD as the Oracle Application
Server Enterprise Edition?
No, the Forms and Reports Services install type is available on a separate
CD. However, this CD is part of the Oracle Application Server 10g
CD pack.

What are the features available in Forms and Reports Services Installation?

There are several functionalities that are available in the
Oracle Application Server Enterprise Edition installation but
not available in the Forms and Reports Services installation.

Is
it possible to associate Forms and Reports Services with an existing
Oracle Infrastructure?
Yes, this is
possible. In fact, this is one of the enhancements introduced in Oracle
Application Server Forms and Reports Services 10g Release 2
(10.1.2). This enhancement allows you to associate your Forms and Reports
installation with an existing Oracle Infastructure. With this enhancement,
you can use Oracle’s built-in security mechanism (Oracle Single
Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory) with the Forms and Reports Services
install.

Are
there any limitations of this install type?
To use the services offered by Oracle Infrastructure, such as Single
Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory integration, you need to associate
your Forms and Reports installation with an existing Oracle Infastructure.
However, once you configure Forms and Reports Services to use the services
of an Infrastructure, you cannot reverse this configuration.

in this install type and the Oracle Application Server Enterprise Edition?
In terms of the functionality offered by Forms and Reports Services,
there is no difference between this install type and the Oracle Application
Server Enterprise Edition. However, to use the services offered by Oracle
Infrastructure, such as Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory
integration, you need to associate your Forms and Reports installation
with an existing Oracle Infastructure.

There will be no

Patchsets will be available for Oracle Application Server, which can
be applied to any installation, including the Forms and Reports Services
installation.
