With a highly scalable client /
server architecture, Oracle Secure Backup offers
centralized tape backup mangement of networked
servers through a single point of administration,
the Administrative Server. The administrative
server maintains the Oracle Secure Backup
cataolog, job scheduler, configuration settings
and is the Certificate Authority (CA) for server
identification verification. All hosts and tape
devices managed by an administrative server are
part of that administrative domain.
Hosts within the domain will be
assigned to one or more roles based on backup
requirements and tape drivve access. Every host
having data to backup will be assigned the client
role and if directly attached to a tape drive, the
host will also perform a media server role. Tape
devices may be distributed, dedicated or shared
among multiple hosts. In shared tape environments,
Oracle Secure Backup dynamically shares tape
drives for maximum tape resource utilization. An administrative domain may
consist of a single server or 100's of
heterogeneous servers protecting terabytes of data
to tape.
