High performance, tape backup management for file systems and Oracle Database reducing the cost and complexity of secure data protection.

Read the Press Release

Oracle Secure Backup (OSB) delivers tape data protection for the Oracle database and file systems in distributed UNIX, Linux, Windows and Network Attached Storage (NAS) environments. Safeguarding data and access to the backup domain, Oracle Secure Backup leverages the proven security technologies of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and encryption. Integrated with Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM), Oracle Secure Backup is ideally suited for Oracle customers providing a familiar interface experience protecting the entire Oracle environment to tape:

  • Low-cost, per tape drive pricing offers substantial cost savings over comparable tape backup products
  • Oracle database through integration with Recovery Manager (RMAN) supporting versions Oracle9i through Oracle Database 11g and all Oracle database editions
  • Optimized database backups for increased performance and reduced tape consumption
  • Backup encryption for the Oracle database to tape
  • File system data protection in heterogeneous environments including:
    • Oracle Home and binaries
    • Configuration files of Oracle application products
  • Seamless support of Data Guard, Real Application Clusters (RAC), and Automatic Storage Management (ASM)

bullet Data Sheet

With a highly scalable client / server architecture, Oracle Secure Backup offers centralized tape backup mangement of networked servers through a single point of administration, the Administrative Server. The administrative server maintains the Oracle Secure Backup cataolog, job scheduler, configuration settings and is the Certificate Authority (CA) for server identification verification. All hosts and tape devices managed by an administrative server are part of that administrative domain.

Hosts within the domain will be assigned to one or more roles based on backup requirements and tape drivve access. Every host having data to backup will be assigned the client role and if directly attached to a tape drive, the host will also perform a media server role. Tape devices may be distributed, dedicated or shared among multiple hosts. In shared tape environments, Oracle Secure Backup dynamically shares tape drives for maximum tape resource utilization. An administrative domain may consist of a single server or 100's of heterogeneous servers protecting terabytes of data to tape.
