|
How is Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2 priced? |
The core ETL features are provided free with the database Standard Edition, Standard Edition One and Enterprise Edition. The core features that are provided free represent the functionality provided by the current 10g Release 1 version of Warehouse Builder.

· The Enterprise ETL Option is priced option per CPU
· The Data Quality Option is priced option per CPU

What does the new licensing model mean for existing Warehouse Builder Customers? |
As of May 2006, new Database customers are licensed for the Core ETL Features, i.e. the Warehouse Builder 10g Release 1 functionality inside Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2. All other features are available as priced options. All existing Developer Suite customers retain Warehouse Builder 10g Release 1 functionality + SAP connector (so they can use Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2 Core ETL Features and SAP connector) |
Top of Page
|
For name user licensing, what is the minimum number of named users a customer must purchase? |
Warehouse Builder can be licensed on a per-user basis. However, as the Warehouse Builder options can only be purchased with the Enterprise Edition of the database, there is a minimum named user purchase requirement of 25 users per CPU. |
Top of Page
|
Can a customer license Warehouse Builder and database differently? |
The licensing model must be consistent across the database and Warehouse Builder.
So both must be either named user or CPU based. It is not possible to mi and match. For example a customer cannot license Enterprise Edition of the database on a per CPU basis and then license Warehouse Builder based on a named user model |
Top of Page
|
Can customers license a subset of CPUs on machine? |
All CPUs on a machine must be licensed. It not possible to have Grid Control restrict ETL processing to a set number of CPUs and only license based on those CPUs. |
Top of Page
|
Will elements of OWB be disabled if the add-on options haven't been licensed? |
No. Oracle does not disable the additional priced options within Warehouse Builder. After installing Warehouse Builder all options (Core ETL, Enterprise ETL, Data Quality and Connectors) are enabled and available for use. The licensing model is based on a "trust" model. |
Top of Page
|
Why are only the production systems licensed? Is it Production only? |
No, customers must license all their target environments. This includes development, testing, training, QA and product environments.
Warehouse Builder supports the full development life-cycle from development right through to final production release. |
Top of Page
|
What licenses do customers get if they purchase Business Intelligence Suite Standard Edition? |
Customers who purchase Business Intelligence Suite Standard Edition are automatically licensed for the Core ETL features when they purchase Standard Edition, Standard Edition One or Enterprise Edition of the database to support Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Standard Edition.
For more information please refer to the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Standard Edition page on OTN:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/standard-edition.html |

Installation
How do I download and install Warehouse Builder Client versus Warehouse Builder Server? |
Warehouse Builder is a single install image that contains both Client and Server components, which are installed at the same time as part of the installation process. If the deployment target database is on the same machine as Warehouse Builder Client UI, there is one single installation process. If the deployment target database is on a separate machine, the install process has to be run twice, repeating the exact same install process on the client machine (to run the Warehouse Builder Design client) and the deployment target machine. Normally when installing the repository, either locally or remotely, the OWB software needs to be already present on the machine. However, it is possible to skip or defer the step of installing on the target deployment machine. This is referred to as a "Remote Target Configuration". More information on this can be found in the Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Remote Target". |

|
Which platforms does Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2 support? |
Oracle Warehouse Builder is now shipped as part of the database and accordingly supports all the same operating systems as the database.
Note The database is no longer available on Sun Solaris SPARC 32 Bit platforms, therefore, neither is Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2. |
Top of Page
|
Which database version do I need for my Warehouse Builder Design Repository ? |
Oracle Database version 9.2 or higher is required for Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2 Repository. However, to use the data quality option, a database version of 10g Release 1 or higher is required. |
Top of Page
|
Are languages other than English supported? |
Yes. Warehouse Builder supports a large number of languages within the repository. Once a language has been added using the Repository Assistant, you can supply a business name for your Warehouse Builder objects using that language. The User Interface of the Design Center (menus, etc) is also translated. |
Top of Page
|
Can I run the Design Center UI on non-Windows platforms? |
The Design Center UI is supported on both Windows and Linux platforms. All other platforms are supported as run-time environments only.
However, Warehouse Builder mappings and processes can now be deployed and executed in databases located on hosts that are different from the host where the Warehouse Builder Control Center Service is running. This eliminates the need to install Warehouse Builder software on the database host. Please refer to the Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Remote Target" section for details. |

|
Does "packaged with the database" mean Warehouse Builder now gets installed with the database? |
No. Warehouse Builder is delivered as a separate DVD that ships with database. The installation process requires the use of a separate ORACLE_HOME. |
Top of Page
|
Can I switch off and/or un-install the optional functionality? |
No. For more detailed information on the exact list of features provided by each part of the new licensing model please refer to the Database Licensing Information 10g Release 2 (10.2) B14199-04, which is available here (A pdf version of this document is also available here), to understand what functionality is optional. |

|
If I install the Windows DB Client tools (e.g. Windows OEM) will this install OWB, or is it a separate install? |
Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2 is a separate installation process. Warehouse Builder is packaged on two separate DVDs and is not include in the set of DVDs that provide the database installation process. |
Top of Page
|
Will it show up in my Start menu under "Integrated Management Tools" or where? |

Is the OLAP support consistent with the AWM interface. i.e. if I create a mapping in OWB, can I see / edit it in AWM? |
Currently, if OLAP objects are modeled and deployed from OWB, the mappings are not visible within AWM. This will be resolved by the 10.2.0.3 database patchset, which will be out shortly. |

|
Is it possible to connect to an existing Designer repository? |
Using 10g Release 2 it is possible to create an Oracle module, then in the "Connection Information" step, edit the location so that it points to a Designer 2000 database. After you've created the module, edit the module and go to the "Metadata Location" page. Inside that page, you can then switch to Designer and fill in the workarea and container element information. |
