Required Software

The following software is required to build, deploy, run, and use the BC4J-VSM:

After installing the required software, see Setup for instructions on setting up your system and working through the tutorial.

Application Source Code

OTN members can download complete BC4J-VSM source code and supporting materials:

Oracle Products

To build and run the BC4J-VSM, you will also need a Database, an IDE, and a J2EE Container or an Application Server. OTN members can download developer-license versions of these Oracle products for free from /software/.

To access the BC4J-VSM, you will need one or more of the Supported Clients.

Product Description

Database

The BC4J-VSM sample application was designed and built to run with an Oracle9i database running SQL*Net TCP/IP listener. It will also work with an Oracle8i database. Other databases may work, too, but have not been tested.

IDE

The BC4J-VSM was built using Oracle9i JDeveloper version 9.0.3. JDeveloper provides a full-featured integrated development environment (IDE) that you can use to view and edit the source code, and to compile and deploy the application.

J2EE Container

JDeveloper includes Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE (OC4J), an embedded J2EE container that you can deploy to and use as an application server to test the BC4J-VSM.

Application Server

You can also deploy the BC4J-VSM to Oracle9i Application Server.

Libraries and Tools

The following third-party libraries and tools are required.

Suported Clients

Mall customers and shop owners can access the BC4J-VSM using a Web browser. The BC4J-VSM was tested using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, Netscape Communicator 6.0, and Mozilla 1.1b.

Administrators can access the BC4J-VSM though an interface built with JClient, Oracle's framework for binding Swing-based Java controls to objects in the BC4J framework.
