Understanding Oracle XML DB

October 2003

This series of tutorials uses the Simple XML Based Content Management Application to demonstrate programming techniques that take advantage of the features of Oracle XML DB, a feature of Oracle 9i Database Release 2.

The Oracle XML DB is fully compliant with the W3C XML data model thereby providing new standard access methods for XML navigation and query. It also packs the inherent benefit of the Oracle 9i Database Release 2 and brings with it, high-performance, native XML storage and retrieval technology. In short Oracle XML DB lets you leverage the advantages of relational database technology plus the advantages of XML.

While describing parts of the larger application, each tutorial is self-contained, and each explains how to use a technique or perform a task.

OTN members can download the complete sample application (called CMSXDB), including source code and installation instructions.
