BC4J Installer for JDeveloper 9.0.x
December 2003
Overview
The BC4J installer upgrades the BC4J runtime libraries in an iAS or standalone
OC4J installation, allowing you to deploy BC4J applications to an earlier version
of the application server. For example, it allows you to deploy a BC4J 9.0.3.3
application to iAS 9.0.2. Note that to run a BC4J application on a later version
of the application server (for example, BC4J 9.0.2 on iAS 9.0.3), you do not
need to run the installer.
The installer runs inside JDeveloper, and installs the BC4J runtime libraries
that are in your JDeveloper installation. This means, for example, that if you
run the installer in JDeveloper 9.0.3.3, it installs the BC4J 9.0.3.3 runtime
libraries.
The version matrix below shows supported BC4J and application server versions,
and what, if anything you need to do, to make the combination work.
Installation Instructions
The BC4J installer only works with JDeveloper 9.0.x. JDeveloper 10g includes
an ADF runtime installer that installs the ADF runtime to different application
servers.
1. Exit JDeveloper.
2. Copy bc4j_installer.jar to the jdev_home\jdev\lib\ext folder (do not unzip it).
How to Run the Installer
1. Start JDeveloper.
2. From the main menu, select Tools > BC4J Framework installer > Standalone
OC4J 9.0.x (to install to standalone OC4J) or Tools > BC4J Framework installer
> Oracle 9iAS 9.0.x (to install to iAS).
3. Follow the instructions in the wizard; for documentation click Help at any
stage in the wizard.
Note 1: The installer does not upgrade UIX applications in iAS.
Note 2: The installer requires that the application server is on the
local machine, or mapped to a drive on the local machine. To map a windows drive
to a unix server, or vice versa, you might need to use a third-party product
such as Samba or NFS.
Version Support Matrix
This matrix shows supported BC4J and application server versions. To use the
matrix:
- Find the cell corresponding to version of JDeveloper you are working with
and the iAS or OC4J version you want to deploy your application to.
- The contents of the cell tell you whether this combination is supported,
and what, if anything, you need to do to make it work.

Notes
1.Using the utility available on OTN (windows
and solaris
only).
2. Requires installing the BC4J runtime libraries, using
the BC4J runtime installer.
3. Downloadable standalone OC4J. Of course you can always
run the embedded OC4J that ships with JDeveloper 9.0.n as a standalone
OC4J and deploy BC4J applications from JDeveloper 9.0.n to this standalone
OC4J.
4. Requires upgrading the iAS JDK to 1.4 (this must be done
before running the ADF runtime installer).
