Company Background

Since 1986 Transoft, part of Iris Group, has been helping organizations to evolve new solutions from their existing applications, delivering improved business processes - faster, with less risk and at lower cost. Transoft's specialist tools and services have enabled many companies to adopt the latest technologies as part of the development lifecycle of their existing applications; keeping them productive and relevant to changing business needs for longer; providing a continued ROI. Transoft provides application modernization and migration solutions to customers in every region of the world, from offices in the USA and Europe, and with local business partners.

Solutions Overview

Application Migration
If your hardware platform has reached its end of life, or it’s too expensive to run, or you simply want to upgrade to the latest operating environments, Transoft provides rapid and smooth application migration solutions to move your key applications onto modern hardware platforms and operating systems.

SOA for Legacy
Since 1998, and before the term Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) was coined, Transoft has been architecting and delivering services-based project solutions with the hallmark of high performance and scalability.

Transoft’s unique strength lies in designing not only new application functionality in the latest .NET and Java technologies within an SOA, but of blending in existing (legacy) application core business functions as services, enabling an evolutionary path to application extension and transformation while dramatically reducing project risk, cost and time.

The Benefits of Transoft Modernization Solutions

  • A comprehensive approach for the evolution of new solutions from your existing applications throughout the entire lifecycle of these applications
  • Modernization of your existing applications may range from enhanced graphical interfaces and the inclusion of a relational database through to taking advantage of the vast range of available modern technology, such as Java/J2EE or Microsoft .NET, to transform, extend and integrate them within and outside the enterprise
  • Protects the considerable investment made in developing the original application and removes the cost that a package or re-development implementation would require
  • Flexible, cost-effective, fastest and minimum risk means of enabling an evolutionary path to application extension and modernization
Case Studies

EPBS
Transoft migrated critical patient billing applications by Emergency Physicians Billing Services (EPBS) from their retiring HP e3000 mainframe to an open and more flexible HP-UX environment, and the IMAGE database to Oracle.

Springfields Fuels
Springfield Fuels (formerly British Nuclear Fuels Ltd) has provided products and services to over 140 reactors in more than 12 countries. Transoft has won a £530,000 contract to migrate its Control Systems Application Software currently running on OpenVMS on an HP (DEC) VAX server. The Pascal code will be converted to C and then transferred so that it will operate in the target environment, with Oracle 10g replacing the Rdb database.

UK Steel Manufacturer
Partnering with Capgemini once again, Transoft has successfully completed an application migration of HP e3000 critical rolling mill systems for a major UK steel manufacturer. The applications now run on an open and more flexible IBM AIX Unix and Oracle environment, reducing the cost of ongoing maintenance, minimising business risk, and making it easier to add new functionality and to interrogate data for reporting.

Steel Warehouse Company
Headquartered in South Bend Indiana, and with locations throughout the Eastern US, Steel Warehouse Company is a large integrated steel service center providing numerous processing services for the delivery of production-ready steel to metal stampers, formers, fabricators and manufacturers. Transoft migrated the company’s integrated ERP system running on a HP e3000 to IBM AIX and Oracle.

Lock Joint Tube Company
Lock Joint Tube, Inc. manufactures mechanical and structural grade steel tubing. Transoft migrated their custom developed HP e3000 applications to IBM AIX and Oracle. The South Bend Indiana company relies completely on its specialised ERP system and the migration has enabled the company to continue to benefit from the application’s proven functionality.

AMISYS
AMISYS, which offers information management solutions for healthcare payers in the USA, wanted to move its AMISYS 3000 suite from HP e3000 to an HP-UX environment. Transoft migrated more than 1,200 COBOL programs to Micro Focus COBOL, and the IMAGE database to 340 Oracle tables.

Littlewoods
One of the UK’s largest and most successful private businesses, Littlewoods wanted to progressively eliminate its Bull, DEC Alpha and other proprietary platforms, replacing them with a Sun Solaris server and Oracle relational database.  Transoft partnered with them to ensure a low-risk and cost-effective solution.

DFID
The Department for International Development (DFID), the government agency responsible for managing billions of pounds to help develop the poorest nations in the world, needed to move its Pensions Integrated Payments Scheme from a Data General machine running DG/SQL to an HP9000. Transoft migrated AOS/VS COBOL to Micro Focus COBOL, and the DG/SQL database to Oracle.

Alcatel Telettra
Alcatel migrated its VAX VMS applications, including a large C application with over 70,000 VMS system dependencies to Sun Solaris running Oracle x.25, DataView, OpenView and OSF/MOTIF with Transoft’s Legacy Liberator toolset.
