Oracle Modernization Alliance—Re-Architecting Partners

Re-architecting occurs when a modernization needs to cross major architectural boundaries such as transformation to Object Oriented design or transformation to a truly process driven architecture that more closely reflects that way business operates.

Re-architecting solutions typically involve a recovery phase that analyzes the legacy environment to separate the business logic from the technical environment. The extracted logic is then re-factored into a more modern architecture. The legacy application serves as the specification for the modernized application, but only some of the legacy application is actually retained.

Re-architecting also typically takes advantage of the new environment in new ways, thus replacing entire sections of legacy code with capabilities in the new environment. For this reason, modernization via re-architecting often results in less lines of code than were present in the legacy environment.
