Company Background

Relativity Technologies is the leading provider of Enterprise Application Modernization solutions. Over 300 organizations—including seven of the ten largest financial services providers—have relied on our software platform to increase the efficiency and flexibility of the applications that automate their core business operations. The Modernization Workbench® delivers this value by enabling organizations to understand, manage, modernize, and maintain applications throughout the enterprise.

Solution

The Modernization Workbench platform accelerates the transition of proven business processes to more flexible, modern architectures.  The platform offers an industry first: the comprehensive ability to extract UML-compliant business process models from existing applications.  Then, in concert with its patented business rule management module, users can organize business logic into hierarchies based on the created models.  This yields a complete and language-independent model of an organization’s operations that can be forward generated to a modernized environment.

The platform also automates alternative strategies for application re-architecting.  Its patented componentization methods eliminate duplicate, dead, and inefficient coding structures, increasing the efficiency of existing applications.  Further, users can deploy these capabilities to decouple business functions from monolithic applications into standalone components in less time than manual alternatives.  Segmented business rules can be readily reused or wrappered in an SOA framework - - multiplying operational efficiency and flexibility.

Case Studies
Financial Services Identifies Business Rules

A major provider of health and retirement benefits faced an operational challenge.  When the organization decided to transition an aging application to its Java standard, it recognized that it could not afford to lose the critical business processes coded into the application.  But without detailed knowledge of how the application and its business logic functioned, it risked delays and disruptions.  The Modernization Workbench was deployed to uncover, document, and manage the hidden business rules within the application.  The result was functional specifications that were the basis for moving to the Java environment with no loss of the organization’s critical business processes.  In fact, with the Modernization Workbench users can execute business rule discovery and management with 74% less effort than manual methods.

Reduction of Code through Rearchitecture

A major international bank has long relied on a client management application that has grown more complex and inflexible over time.  Without detailed information about how the application was structured, the IT team could not hope to efficiently maintain or align the application with business needs.  The Modernization Workbench platform was deployed to demystify the application, yielding rich insights into the application’s structure and function.  Building on the collected insights, the platform was deployed to refactor the application.  Through the patented re-architecting capabilities of the platform, the bank migrated to a better supported environment and reduced its code base by 50% - - all while retaining the proven business processes embedded within the application.
