Company Background

Clerity is a leading, full-service legacy transition company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois with offices worldwide. Clerity has customers in all in major countries throughout the world, including some of the largest financial services ISVs and Fortune-class end users. Clerity's migration team and automated software solutions have facilitated hundreds of legacy system migrations over the past 15 years. Clerity can architect, design and configure solutions; provide the software and hardware infrastructure and support the operational aspects of the migration from start-to-finish. This combination of services and products makes Clerity unique among traditional migration vendors.

Solution

Clerity Solutions, Inc. provide Mainframe customers with the ability to re-host mission critical legacy applications to lower cost open systems platforms such as HP-UX, AIX, Solaris, and Linux.

Clerity’s two core Mainframe Re-hosting solutions are the Clerity Mainframe Transaction Processing (MTP) and Clerity Mainframe Batch Manager (MBM) software. MTP is a native high-performance, production quality online transaction processing (OLTP) environment for open systems platforms such as Sun Solaris, HP-UX and IBM AIX. MBM provides a comprehensive batch job execution environment on UNIX . Both MTP and MBM support Oracle as the target RDBMS when migrating mainframe DB2 data.

Legacy applications (both source and data) are re-hosted to an open systems platform running the Clerity MTP and MBM solutions. Mainframe DB2 data is migrated to Oracle using standard RDBMS utilities. The re- hosted applications are then integrated within a well defined Clerity Mainframe Rehosting Reference Architecture (MFRRA), giving customers access to a proven framework for deploying re-hosted mainframe applications on an open systems platform.

In addition to Clerity based modernization solutions, related Oracle solutions include Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle Application Framework Development (ADF), Oracle OC4J J2EE Container.

WSDL interfaces are generated from COBOL components after they are re-hosted. These newly created web services can then be integrated with existing native Java services and driven via the Oracle BPEL PM orchestration engine. Additional Oracle related solutions include JDeveloper (used to create Java web services) and the OC4J container (used to deploy the web services).

Case Studies

Medavie Blue Cross
Medavie Blue Cross selected a mainframe rehosting strategy and chose Clerity Mainframe Transaction Processing (MTP) software to move its essential legacy applications from the mainframe to an open systems environment, creating a sophisticated and practical IT system to take the company into the next century. Another goal was to move legacy files to Oracle applications on an open system to provide staff with the flexibility to better respond to customer inquiries. While Medavie Blue Cross spent $6 million on hardware and software for the migration, after the payback period ended, they are experiencing $3 million in annual savings over the outsourced mainframe.

Volkswagen de Mexico
Volkswagen de Mexico needed to upgrade its IT environment for more functionality, greater access, reduced processing time and lower cost than its mainframe system could provide. Gedas North America, which owns and runs VW de Mexico's data center, turned to Clerity for help in transforming the company's IT infrastructure from a mainframe environment to UNIX servers. They chose Clerity's Mainframe Transaction Processing (MTP) software to run in a rehosted environment along with Oracle. MTP allowed the transfer of high-performance CICS and batch applications to the UNIX environment without re- engineering code. With MTP, system performance increased by nearly seven times and staffing costs dropped by 25%.
