In their own words, hear what interns have to say.
How would you sum up your summer with Oracle?
I’ve learned a lot about the differences between school and working in industry. The work is interesting, the people are really nice, and Oracle takes great care of its interns! It’s been great getting to know the other interns and exploring California. I feel like I have a good sense of what working full-time at Oracle would be like. I really enjoyed working with and getting to know my team—they’ve all made an effort to help me settle in as an intern.
How was your summer experience with Oracle?
Amazing! My project was interesting and challenging, my group has been helpful both during and after my internship, and the intern events were really fantastic. I made a lot of good friends during my time as well.
During my internship I learned about the importance of collaboration during the design and development of a product. At Oracle you are surrounded with smart people whose insights can help make an ordinary product extraordinary. Working with and learning from your teammates will not only ensure the success of your product, it will help you build a strong foundation for a successful career. And a career with Oracle is a great one to choose for many reasons—not the least of which is that product developers get to build great software that thousands will use.
How has your team welcomed you to Oracle?
It has been an amazing three months at Oracle! I was welcomed to the company just like a full-time employee. The first week, my team organized a welcome lunch in a nice restaurant for me. My colleagues have been very helpful in getting me up-to-speed on my project. I visited labs at the Santa Clara [California] campus where I got to see the room-sized Oracle Storage appliances, which I tested throughout my internship. Throughout the summer, we had team lunches, went out with colleagues, and had fun outside of work.
To prospective interns out there: after many all-nighters throughout the semester, you deserve to be spoiled a little. And if you want to be spoiled properly, come to Oracle: amazing intern events, fully furnished housing, rental car or bicycle (in my case, a brand new Mustang convertible). And as long as you take the initiative, you will get to work on interesting projects, too!
Describe your summer with Oracle.
It's definitely a rewarding experience. The project I was working on was challenging and interesting. I also really enjoyed the intern events college recruiters organized—talks from Oracle VPs, fun yacht ride in SF.... Everyone on my team was very willing to offer help to each other. In the first few weeks of my internship, I was not familiar with the development cycle, environment setup, and the product I was working on, and they answered whatever questions I had, and helped me fit into the group quickly. I learned something new every day for the past summer—working with awesome teammates to solve challenging technical problems, working on the various world-impact Oracle products, and working in an amazing group where everyone is passionate and loves to help each other.
