Oracle and the Environment

By partnering with federal and state agencies and other voluntary organizations, Oracle has become a leader in the software industry on energy and environmental issues. Oracle management promotes "green" practices by minimizing resource utilization, emphasizing sustainable resources, minimizing and recycling waste, and other activities.

Additionally, Oracle management believes that information and efficiency are at the core of the green enterprise. Streamlined business processes reduce material waste from enterprise operations and increase the efficiency of bringing goods to market. Collecting and analyzing data from across the enterprise is essential to managing, executing, and measuring enterprise green initiatives. Oracle will continue to develop practices and products that adhere to these principles and help customers in their own efforts to protect the environment.

Oracle runs its Austin data center cooling and power distribution systems at energy levels 60 percent lower than the industry average. Oracle's hardware manufacturing facilities are IS0 14001 certified. Oracle received LEED-NC silver certification at its new 190,000 square foot building in Hyderabad, India. Oracle employees dedicate volunteer time to more than 120 environmental projects, annually. Oracle drastically reduced its travel-related footprint by requiring that, when appropriate, meetings take place using Oracle Web Conferencing. At Oracle OpenWorld, 60 percent of menu ingredients are sourced from within 100 miles of the event venue. Oracle develops thousands of products that help customers reduce their environmental impact.
