Aktia is a Finnish financial services provider that offers a broad range of solutions for banking, asset management, insurance, and real estate services. Aktia serves approximately 350,000 customers through its 70 branch offices and comprehensive internet and telephone services.
Online banking is the most important channel for Aktia’s customer encounters. Having shared a legacy, online-banking platform with three other Finnish banks for 12 years, Aktia wanted to create a modern Web environment of its own to provide more advanced and flexible online services for its customers.
Aktia and its implementation partner Tieto chose Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Database to build a reliable and standardized integration layer between the new, online banking and the legacy back-end systems. Aktia’s entire Web portal was updated, and the company has received a significant amount of positive feedback from its customers regarding the new online banking application.
“We chose Oracle Service Bus because we had successfully used Oracle tools in our previous IT environment and because it was critical that we have compatibility in our IT environment for the sake of business continuity,” said Juha Volotinen, director, internet services, Aktia. “After a careful evaluation of other products available on the market, we determined that Oracle’s service bus was the most mature product on the market.”
The implementation project took 18 months, and work involving Oracle Service Bus was done during all of this time. The project proceeded as planned, and the solution went live in January 2012.
Tieto implemented Aktia’s new online services solution, which includes the online bank and new self-services for insurance customers. Aktia’s new Web services are based on Tieto’s eBanking Suite solution, which offers flexible banking capabilities, for example, implementing online and mobile services alongside legacy banking services.
