Alea Group Holdings (Bermuda) Supports Claims and Policy Management Business Data with a Flexible Storage Solution

Headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, Alea Group Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd. has operations in Europe and the United States with additional branch locations in Toronto, Canada, and Zug, Switzerland. Alea Group is an insurance and reinsurance run-off operation that manages legacy liabilities for a wide variety of global risks. Alea Group’s management team consists of seasoned insurance/reinsurance professionals with extensive backgrounds in claims, commutations, and liability management for insurance/reinsurance portfolios.

In 2006, Alea Group needed a storage system to accommodate its claims and policy management business data, as it faced limits with the existing storage system. To grow past the system’s limit of 240 terabytes, Alea Group purchased two Oracle’s Pillar Axiom storage systems for its London location, which enabled it to benefit from storage capacities of up to 270 terabytes in 2006 and up to 1.6 petabytes today. As its previous systems were at end-of-life, Alea Group also reduced its total cost of ownership with Pillar Axiom by gaining system support and minimizing the need for time-consuming, risky updates. Further, the solution enabled Alea Group to achieve excellent performance and 100% availability of the storage system with full redundancy at a disk-storage controller level, improving physical security.

In 2009, as part of a data center consolidation, Alea Group virtualized its offices and expanded its use of Pillar Axiom—while also expanding its storage capacity by 20 terabytes—to all of its offices and provided high availability capabilities through the use of multiple Pillar Axiom 600 systems in co-location facilities in Virginia and Connecticut.
