Avnet Technology Solutions Middle East & Africa (Avnet) is an operating group of Avnet, Inc., a value-added distributor of enterprise-computing products, software, and services with offices in more than 70 countries. Its customers include value-added resellers, independent software vendors (ISVs), original equipment manufacturers, system builders, and system integrators.
Avnet launched the Middle East’s first Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic technology center in Dubai to give potential customers first-hand experiences with the power of the systems and help them identify the potential value they can gain through faster processing—with the capability to remotely connect everywhere in the region.
The technology center enables enterprise clients to test mixed workload and online transaction processing (OLTP) performance on their own data warehouses, demonstrating, for example, that a report that took hours to run on legacy systems will execute in seconds on Exadata Database Machine. One client, connected remotely to the Avnet Exadata demo center from Algeria, processed an ad-hoc query against 1 billion data records in just 30 seconds—a process that required four hours to run in the client’s own data center.
The growing community of Oracle partners from Bahrain to Morocco uses Avnet’s technology center, not only for customer workshops and demonstrations, but also for operational and performance tuning of their applications on Exastack. Avnet then certifies the operational readiness and proven performance of these applications and helps with achieving Exastack readiness in the Middle East and North Africa.
Within a short time, Avnet issued the first Oracle Exadata Ready certification for an ISV from the financial services industry in Jordan and the first Oracle Exadata Optimized certification for an ISV from the educational sector in Saudi Arabia. The certifications give access to exclusive technical and go-to-market benefits, such as lab environments to help maximize the benefit of custom Exastack applications for Oracle’s customers.
