BAE Systems is one of world’s largest global defense, aerospace, and security companies, employing approximately 93,500 people. BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines division designs and manufactures submarines for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense and the Royal Navy. The organization has built submarines since 1886 and is currently running programs to produce the Astute-class submarine, and to act as industrial lead to design a new generation of submarines to carry the UK’s independent nuclear deterrent. The development and build cycle for a class of submarines is typically more than 20 years.
As part of a program to implement a new enterprise resource planning system, BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines wanted automated authentication capabilities to reinforce security and compliance, help increase employee efficiency, reduce the burden on the IT help desk, and enable license optimization. With a disparate application environment, it needed a solution that could provide single sign-on for a wide range of applications—including its legacy tools. The organization selected Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Suite Plus to achieve these objectives.
"We chose Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Plus to create a single access point to our entire software estate, including a number of legacy tools that are critical to our business. We considered several options, but only Oracle could provide us with a tool to apply single-sign-on across all our applications." – Stephen Wells, Chief Systems Architect, BAE Systems Maritime –Submarines

A key objective of the project was to develop the in-house capability of Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Suite Plus. To achieve this goal, BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines division worked with Oracle partner aurionPro SENA to implement Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Suite Plus and complete the initial roll out to a number of key applications—including SAP, Primavera, Teamcenter, Foran, and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. The organization expects to add other applications in the future, with aurionPro SENA’s assistance as required.
aurionPro SENA worked with BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines ’s architects, development teams, and IT support team to deliver the project. The partner also offered comprehensive half-day training courses to the company’s service desk to ensure they were entirely self-sufficient in trouble-shooting and managing Oracle Enterprise Single Sign-On Suite Plus.
“It was very easy to quickly implement, as we were able to re-use existing infrastructure. aurionPro SENA helped us complete the implementation faster than originally planned,” said Stephen Wells, chief systems architect, BAE Systems Maritime – Submarines.
