Cedacri Guarantees Dependability with a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Infrastructure

Cedacri S.p.A., one of the top data centers in Italy, handles 40 million transactions a day, 40,000 information system users, and 30,000 million instructions per second on more than 4,000 mainframe servers. Cedacri is part of Cedacri Group, which began more than 30 years ago and is now a market leader in developing applications and infrastructure outsourcing solutions. Cedacri Group provides 150 clients—including banks, financial institutions, and industrial and service companies—with a complete range of integrated solutions, including full outsourcing for facility and desktop management, vertical application solutions, business process services, prepayment cards, and business information services. It has an annual turnover of $US359 million and employs more than 1,400 workers in its seven branches, located at Collecchio, Parma, Castellazzo Bormida, Bari, Milan, Brescia, and Buccinasco Italy, as well as Chisinau, Moldavia.

With its rapid business growth, Cedacri needed to redesign its data center’s technological infrastructure and adopt a high-performance, scalable, and easy-to-manage storage solution.

A word from Cedacri S.p.A.

  • β€œIn transitioning to a virtualized environment, we wanted tape storage that would offer the performance and flexibility required for rapid growth. It was instantly clear that Oracle could provide the performance, scalability, and ease of management we needed in the long term.” – Maria Elena Campidoglio, Senior Information Technology Executive, Cedacri

  • Adopt a mainframe storage solution to support information system and business evolution with the ability to serve midsize and large banks, as well as other sectors, such as manufacturing, services, and public administration
  • Deploy data protection and backup technologies that ensure the high level of security required for a multibank information system
  • Deploy a disaster recovery solution with efficient backup operations to guarantee business continuity and service availability to customers
  • Ensure logical and physical separation of data between external clients and improve security measures

  • Adopted Oracle’s StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager System 5 for a virtualized mainframe environment as well as StorageTek SL8500 and SL3000 modular library systems for high performance and high reliability
  • Chose StorageTek T10000C tape drives, handling 8x more data per cartridge than the previous system for a total of 40 million transactions per day, 40,000 users, and 1,100,000 users virtual channels, of which on average about 3,000 connected at the same time, 30,000 MIPS of processing power
  • Guaranteed business continuity and dependability required for multibank information system, using a physical tape library and StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager at the primary data center and at a remote disaster recovery site
  • Consolidated and virtualized mainframe environments, permitting IT infrastructure optimization and guaranteeing the geographical location of data, lowering data management costs and ensuring higher levels of system scalability and operational reliability
  • Improved data protection for external clients with logical and physical data separation on disc and backup tapes

Why Oracle

The Oracle architecture provided duplicate systems for virtualization and created tape archives for an architecture that maintains the logical data segregation essential for security.
