Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) focuses on applied research, offering programs of study in science and technology programs that include geotechnical sciences, environmental management, hotel and tourism management, health sciences and public health, engineering, and communication and new media. Its programs address scientific areas not usually offered by the University of Cyprus or the country’s other higher education institutions.

Challenges and Solutions

To achieve its goal of becoming an e-University, CUT had to ensure its data was available, applicable, reliable, and secure and that it could provide efficient IT administration. CUT chose to run its business applications, including its enterprise resource planning (ERP) and library management systems, on Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition with Real Application Clusters. Implemented on a four-node cluster, the Oracle solution delivers 99.999% availability, ensures high performance, enables efficient information management, and provides scalability and fault tolerance. CUT relied on My Oracle Support during its Oracle Real Application Cluster implementation. The self-service resource provided step-by-step instructions and troubleshooting to overcome various obstacles.
