Douglas County School District Unifies Content Management, Launches New Site to Empower Employees and Improve Interaction with Community

Douglas County School District educates more than 61,000 students in the 900 square miles south of Denver. It includes 80 schools and employs more than 6,000 people. The district has experienced rapid growth over the last several years, and its Web site—and associated content management processes—were feeling the pain.

The school district’s department-level subject matter experts had to go through a cumbersome, time consuming process to update Web site content. The district also had a lot of duplicative Web site content, leading to inaccuracies when information was not updated across all instances on the site. It also lacked a method for allowing parents, students, employees, and community members to provide their feedback on the Web site.

Douglas County School District worked with Redstone Content Solutions to implement Oracle WebCenter Content 11g and leveraged the solution to develop a new district Web site. With Oracle, the district centralized document and Web content management—allowing district users to refer to one single source of content. The district reduced the number of Web pages on its site from 3,000 to 650, enabled users to update their own content, and allowed community members to find information and interact more easily.

Why Oracle

Douglas County School District chose Oracle WebCenter Content 11g because of its easy integration with the district’s existing Oracle products.

“We chose Oracle WebCenter Content because it is standards-based and fits well into our environment, more easily integrating into our full Oracle stack, especially the Oracle Identity Management piece. With this integrated solution, we can pull information out of Oracle WebCenter Content and enable groups districtwide to control access to specific content via the identity management solution. This enables us to more effectively target content to users—including teachers, administrators, students, and parents.” said Dwight Humphrey, executive director of IT, Douglas County School District.

Implementation Process

Douglas County School District had a small, internal team of four working on the Web site launch. The district worked with Redstone Content Solutions on the implementation.

Partner

“We brought in Redstone Content Solutions for their expertise. We really liked their skill set and they helped us ramp up several parts of the new district Web site,” Humphrey said.
